The ADB Ventures Financing Partnership Facility (ADB Ventures) supports and invests in early-stage companies with technology-enabled solutions that have the potential to scale and deliver climate and development impact in emerging Asia. ADB Ventures is a nonsovereign platform expected to operate for about 30 years. ADB can accept and administer financial contributions to trust funds and technical assistance from multiple funding sources, including bilateral and multilateral organizations and the private sector. Partners’ contributions to this financing facility may be in the form of returnable capital and/or grants. ADB envisions ADB Ventures to become a leading climate-focused and impact technology investment platform in Asia and the Pacific that crowds in over $1 billion of risk capital for early-stage companies, thereby unlocking the potential for private sector capital and technological know-how to contribute toward the attainment of the SDGs by 2030.

ADB Ventures Investment Fund 1 (VIF1) is a multi-donor trust fund that reached a final close of $60 million in September 2020. It has made nine investments and six follow-on investments since operations began. Equity investments are made in early-stage companies with operational and impact footprints across emerging Asia. The fund has a 17-year fund life for holding periods of up to 10 years to maximize the opportunities for the success of an early-stage company requiring more patient capital.

ADB Supports Development of Science and Technology Parks in Indonesia

ADB has approved a loan equivalent of $138.5 million to support a Government of Indonesia strategy to commercialize research and development (R&D) and improve start-up success at four science and technology parks in Indonesia. ADB brings substantial experience and knowledge in human capital development, R&D, and innovation from Indonesia and across the region to add value to this project. It will also explore nurturing start-up incubation through its Open Innovation Platform and ADB Ventures.

Stories

ADB Ventures invested in SatSure in early 2022 to grow the company’s product portfolio and aid regional expansion. Satsure expects to support 2.5 million loans to smallholder farmers in the region by 2025, contributing to their climate resilience.

ADB Ventures provided Ananas Anam SEED Program financing of $200,000 to improve its production processes and make Pinatex more cost competitive with traditional and other bio-based leathers. Ananas Anam aims to increase Pinatex’s share of the global bio-based leather market, representing a $5.4 billion opportunity.
