For Poor Filipinos During the Pandemic, Bayan Bayanihan Brings Food and Hope

More than 100,000 households in and around Metro Manila have received critical food supplies through the Bayan Bayanihan, a partnership of ADB, the Philippines’ Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the private sector, in coordination with the Philippine Army. The program was designed to complement national and local governments’ immediate efforts to provide for the basic needs of Filipinos, especially those living in relatively remote areas or far from retail facilities or food markets.

A partnership between ADB and the private sector, in coordination with the Philippine Army, the Bayan Bayanihan program provided food to low-income families, informal settlers, and families who have lost their livelihoods due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program provided for essential food supplies to the most vulnerable households in the national capital region and neighboring areas, affected by income losses for daily wage earners due to the enhanced quarantine to contain COVID-19.
